What is the ACF and where did it come from? The ACF is a national voluntary youth organisation for boys and girls. For a more detailed history click here (73kb, PDF).
What ages are the Cadets? Boys and girls can be Cadets from 12 years until they are 18 years and 9 months old. At 18, you can apply to become an Adult Instructor.
Are there any fees? There is a one-off joining fee of £10.
Where can I get extra kit from? Most clothing the Cadets need (excluding boots) is supplied by us. Equipment that the Cadets might need (bergens, water bottles, cooking equipment etc.) can be borrowed or purchased from the unit (please ask staff for information) or bought from outlets including, Cadet Kit Shop, Cadet Direct but be aware that these do not always provide the cheapest or best option.
Are your staff safe to work with children? All our staff are checked by the Criminal Records Bureau to make sure they have never been accused of any crime which could compromise the safety of your child. While waiting for that clearance, staff members are never left unaccompanied with the Cadets.
Is my child insured while at the Cadets? All Cadets are insured against injury when they are taking part in an authorised activity and under supervision.
Is my child joining the Army? No. Cadet Detachments are affiliated to units of the British Army (the Royal Logistic Corps in our case), and we receive financial support from the Ministry of Defence. However, we are not part of the Army and Cadets are free to leave at any time.
